10cm: Analysis of museum manuscript
A variety of pigments and dyes used in a large coloured image within an ancient Nepalese manuscript were investigated without damage to the sample.

Considerations

The historical manuscript needed to be analyzed without damage of any kind. Thus, it had to be measured in its entirety, and at atmospheric pressure.

The generated XRF images provided valuable information on the specific pigments used, allowing a better understanding of the processes used to create the manuscript, and ensuring the most suitable conservation techniques can be used to preserve the manuscript for future generations.

Data recorded from the Nepalese manuscript is provided courtesy of Mr Kato and Mr Konan, Classical Manuscripts Digital Archive Study Center, owned by Ryukoku University Library.
