Since the beginning of our involvement in VUV instrumentation, HORIBA Jobin Yvon developed new optical components, monochromator designs and components in collaboration with different synchrotron centers to increase the resolution, the flux and to minimize the high harmonics contamination of the monochromator. A few examples of product developments we can mention are the holographic recording process for gratings in 1969, the design and manufacturing of the famous Toroidal Grating Monochromator (TGM) in 1975 and the world's first time release of holographic ion etched gratings in 1983.

The intensity of third generation synchrotron sources has required dedicated instrumentation (cooling optics, high resolution monochromators, stable mechanics, etc.) adapted to the source parameters. HORIBA Jobin Yvon obtained from the European Community a EUREKA approved grant in 1996 to develop new beamlines and components well adapted to third generation synchrotron sources. To achieve this goal and to always provide our customers with the best instrumentation available, three software packages were developed in collaboration with the optical group in LURE (Orsay - France) to simulate and optimize beamline configurations.
